Admission Requirements by Caribbean Country

  • Antigua and Barbua: Caribbean Examinations Council, CXC – CSEC results of I, II, III, CXC-CAPE results of I, II, III- Test of English language proficiency: Not required
  • Bahamas: Bahamas General Certificate of Secondary Education BGCSE – with grades of A, B and C- Test of English language proficiency: Not required
  • Barbados: Caribbean Examinations Council, CXC – CSEC results of I, II, III, CXC-CAPE results of I, II, III- Test of English language proficiency: Not required

General Entrance Award

  • Every applicant with an entrance average over 80% is automatically considered, as long as they apply by March 1
  • Entrance scholarships range from $3,500 to $14,000 over four years

 

Named Entrance Awards

  • Different from regular entrance scholarships
  • Complete the Named Entrance Award ‌form to be considered for all of them
  • Deadline: March 1

TD Insurance Alumni Scholarship

  • Apply using Named Entrance Award ‌form
  • For a domestic or international student entering their first year of studies
  • Recipient must be the dependant of a Saint Mary’s University alumnus/a
  • Guardian’s name, graduation year and undergraduate or graduate degree program will be required
  • A minimum of 3.0 GPA
  • Annual Value (Approx): $1,500

The Bahamas Ministry of Education / Saint Mary’s University Scholarship

The objective of this award is to provide an opportunity for a public school student in the Bahamas that might otherwise not have an opportunity complete a university degree

Both parties believe the award should be given to students who clearly demonstrate financial need and academic merit.

Eligibility

  • Students must be accepted in a full time, undergraduate degree program at Saint Mary’s University
  • Any person in their final year at a public secondary school in The Bahamas
  • Should be 16-20 years at the time of application
  • Must have a 95% admission average (all A’s)
  • Must be a national of The Bahamas
  • Must demonstrate financial need
  • A minimum of a 2.0 GPA is required for renewability

Value of Award

  • One Award Annually: $24,000 CAD per year (renewable to a maximum of $96,000 CAD per student)
  • Available Feb. 27
  • The scholarship application must be submitted by March 31, 2017

Halo Hero Award

Saint Mary’s University  partners with Henley & Partners (primary sponsor)

  • Seeks to identify students in their last year of secondary school and tertiary institutions
  • Seeking student with exceptional acts of bravery and kindness, and their involvement in humanitarian efforts

Eligibility

  • Students must meet Saint Mary’s University admission criteria by program
  • Any person in their final year of secondary school (Fifth form)
  • Must be a national of Antigua and Barbuda
  • Can be identified as deserving of recognition in the area of humanitarian efforts
  • The recipient must be accepted to full time studies at Saint Mary’s University and meet eligibility requirements of the University and The Halo Foundation for renewability
  • A minimum of a 2.0 GPA is required for renewability

Value of Awards

Three scholarships to be awarded each year:

  • One award:  $30,000 per year (CAD) – to a maximum of $120,000 CAD over 4 years.
  • Two awards: $17,000 per year (CAD) – to a maximum of $68,000 CAD over 4 years.

Presidential/Presidential International Baccalaureate/Santamarian Scholarships

For Domestic and international high school students with an admissions average of 95% or higher, or an IB result of 36+, should apply for the following:

  • The Presidential Scholarship and the Presidential International Baccalaureate Scholarship are valued at $9000 per year and are tenable over four years for a total of $36,000 (CAD).
  • The Santamarian scholarship is valued at $5000 (CAD) per annum and is tenable over four years for a total of $20,000 (CAD).

Application

  • 750-word essay based on your community involvement, contribution to school life and plans for the future
  • A resume which should comment on such things as involvement in community service, participation in student government, athletic achievement, extra curricular activities and volunteer and /or paid work.
  • Letter of recommendation from high school Principal, Guidance Counsellor or Teacher

Decisions

If you are awarded one of these scholarships we will inform you of the amount and other considerations.

Renewal

In your first year a grade point average of 3.67 in a minimum of 24 credit hours between September and April is required for renewal of the scholarship.

In your second and third year a grade point average of 3.67 in 30 credit hours is required between May and April for renewal

 

Scholarships listed are specific to international students. Other faculty and departmental awards may be available.

RESIDENCES

Vanier Residence

  • Smallest of the three residences
  • Low-rise building housing 224 students (all-female and co-ed floor) in four separate houses
  • Each floor in Vanier consists of a common lounge and three suites
  • Each suite containing two double rooms and two single rooms with shared washroom facilities
  • Double rooms are approximately 10 x 14 feet
  • Single rooms are approximately 8 x 11 feet in size
  • Desk with a built-in hutch with shelves, vertical CPU sling, slide-out keyboard tray and a light
  • Desk Chair
  • Wooden, captain-style, single bed with a coil-spring mattress
  • Closet with sufficient space

Loyola Residence

  • 22-storey high-rise, housing 434 students
  • Mixture of same gender and co-ed floors
  • Each floor has a common lounge and four suites
  • Each suite contains four single rooms and one double room with shared (but private) washrooms
  • The double rooms are approximately 10 x 14 feet
  • The single rooms are approximately 11 x 8 feet in size
  • A majority of classes are in Loyola Academic which is below and annexed to the Loyola Residence
  • So your classes are just a short elevator ride away
  • Desk with a built-in hutch with shelves, vertical CPU sling, slide-out keyboard tray and a light
  • Desk Chair
  • Wooden, captain-style, single bed with a coil-spring mattress
  • Closet with sufficient space

Edmund Rice Residence

  • 17-storey apartment-styled residence
  • Some apartments contain two double rooms with a shared kitchen, bathroom and living/dining area
  • Other apartments contain three rooms (super-single or single) with a shared kitchen and bathroom
  •  Only residence that does not require a meal plan (can purchased if desired)
  • Many students like the appeal of being able to cook their own food
  • Option for students who want independence, with the convenience of living on campus
  • Wooden, captain-style, single bed with a coil-spring mattress; or a wooden, double bed with a coil-spring mattress
  • Desk with a built-in hutch with shelves, vertical CPU sling, slide-out keyboard tray and a light
  • Desk Chair
  • Comfy chair

Family & Graduate Housing

  • One- and two-bedroom apartments for student families-with or without children, married, common-law, single parents (whose children will be living with them) 
  • For Graduate and Ph.D. students, single students with a disability which makes traditional residence is unsuitable
  • The apartments are in the Loyola Building conveniently located on campus in the city’s south end
  • Residence agreement/contract is required
  • Typically these agreements/contracts are 11 or 12 months in length
  • All residence agreements/contracts end on July 31 of a given year
  • Monthly rent includes electricity, heat, water, hot water, range, refrigerator, cable TV service, phone set, local phone service, voice mail, access to the campus network, and wireless internet access
  • TV, coax cable, computer, and patch cords are not included in rent
  • Card operated laundry facilities are located on the 2nd floor of the Loyola Residence Building
  • Meal plans are optional

Senior Apartments

  • Ideal for 3rd and 4th year students as well as transfer students
  • Located in the Loyola Residence
  • The suites feature private, lockable single bedrooms in an apartment-like unit with self-contained bathroom and kitchen(ette)
  • Each suite has a lockable front door
  • Meal plans are optional
  • Has a captain-style bed with clothes drawers underneath  
  • Full-sized computer desk with large hutch, CPU sling, slide-out keyboard tray drawer unit and task light
  • A comfortable multi-purpose chair is also provided
  • Some rooms feature freestanding closet units
  • Others have built in closets 

2017/2018 ROOM FEES ($CAD) :   Starting at $5,505.00 (8-months) for a Double Room in Vanier and Loyola        SAMPLE MEAL PLAN:   Residence 10 Plan includes 10 Meals/week and $200 Flex Dollars/term -$3,931.00  **Loyola or Vanier Residents must have a meal plan**
