English Proficiency Exemption:   1. Completed at least two years in a secondary school (as recognized by CBU) where English is the primary language of instruction. Official documentation is needed.         2. Completed at least 30 credit hours (or equivalent) at a post-secondary institution (as recognized by CBU) where English is the primary language of instruction. Official documentation is required.

 

Scholarships

Entrance Scholarships

  •  March 2, 2018 with official transcripts for consideration
  • Up to $5,000CAD (depends on entering average)
  • Must submit the following in addition to the admission application:
    • Completed entrance scholarship application
    • Official transcript submitted to CBU Admissions
    • Financial need application for those interested in bursaries
    • Resume outlining any extra-curricular involvement or work history
    • Two references

High School Students

  • Minimum 85% average to be eligible with no failures in Grade 11 or 12 courses
  • Average is based on all AC & AD Grade 11 courses and all AC & AD completed Grade 12 courses after first semester
  • Average for international students entering directly from high school will be determined by Cape Breton University
  • ESL conditional offers must attend a CBU English language partner school to have award honoured

Articulation Agreement Students

  • Articulation agreements (both domestic & international) qualify
  • Students must be currently enrolled in their program of transfer
  • ESL conditional offers must attend a CBU English language partner school to have award honoured
  • Minimum 80% average as determined by CBU to be eligible with no failures

In-Course Scholarships

  • Available to students  after completing one year of study at CBU (minimum 24 credits)
  • No application required for most of these awards
  • Awards based solely on academic grades
  • Provided to students not in receipt of a renewable scholarship
  • Any award requiring  separate application will be posted to the applications section of the awards site
  • Recipients will be contacted to inform them they are in receipt of the award

Bursaries

  • Both entrance and in-course bursaries available
  • For students entering directly from high school or directly from an articulation agreement partner
  • For an entrance bursary, students must complete a financial form to determine financial need
  • Current CBU students must complete the in-course bursary application  (available between mid-November and closes mid-January yearly)
  •  In-course bursaries are awarded in second semester and based on financial need

External Awards

  • CBU will post, to this section of our website and Scholarship Bulletin Board (outside the Registrar’s Office), external award opportunities
  •  The accuracy, currency and reliability of award information is the responsibility of the external organization
  • Students should contact the organization with any questions they may have

  • Co-ed residence
  • Offers 111 single, private rooms
  • Both private and shared washroom facilities
  • Community living-room area, complete with a fireplace and shelving for books and games
  • Location of dining hall and central mailroom
  • Hall is reserved for students in their second year or higher
