Who Is Eligible ?

All applicants must be a Bahamian citizen.

All applicants must be studying outside of The Bahamas.

All applicants must have at least one academic year remaining, which is the equivalent of two full semesters.

Minimum GPA requirements:
Cumulative GPA of 3.0 at the time of application, whether high school or college.

Career goal stipulations:

Students are not eligible if his/her career plan is medicine (medical doctor, this includes students studying Biochemistry with plans to attend Medical School).

Students are not eligible if pursuing a Bachelor of Law (LLB) degree

Criteria

Family Education Background
Preference is given to students who are first generation (neither parent has completed college).

Academic Profile
Grade Point Average, SAT, SAT II, ACT, BGCSEs, IGCSE’s, IB AP, other academic information as well as work experience and proficiency in the intended area of study.

In addition to the general undergraduate awards, students may also be eligible for one of the below awards depending on their field of study and other criteria.

Estelle Siebens Excellence Scholarship

  • One scholarship awarded annually valued up to US$15,000 per year.
  • For study in the US and Canada at the undergraduate and graduate levels
  • Approved fields of study are agriculture, architecture, economics, education, engineering, marine construction, marine design and manufacturing systems

Harry Moore Memorial Scholarship In The Arts

  • One scholarship awarded annually valued up to US$15,000 per year.
  • For study at the undergraduate level for students who have completed or are in the final semester of an Associates of Art degree from University of The Bahamas 
OR
  • For study at the graduate level
  • Approved fields of study are the fine, visual and performing arts, writing, poetry, as well as arts education
  • Samples of work and/or auditions and interviews are required.

Bahamas Billfish Championship Scholarship

  • Two scholarships awarded annually worth up to US$15,000 per year
  • One undergraduate scholarship in marine and environmental biology
  • One technical training and vocational scholarship in marine mechanics

The Rogers Family Scholarship Fund (The Canadian Lyford Cay Foundation)

  • Valued up to CDN$25,000 annually
  • For study in Canada at the undergraduate level
  • Preference given to first generation students
  • Open field of study, with preference given to students who are accepted into the Edward Rogers School of Business Management at Ryerson University

The Birchall Family Scholarship (The Canadian Lyford Cay Foundation)

  • Valued at CDN$15,000 annually
  • For study in Canada at the undergraduate level
  • Open field of study

The Nihon Family Scholarship (The Canadian Lyford Cay Foundation)

  • Valued at CDN$10,000 annually
  • For study in Canada at the undergraduate level
  • Open field of study
  • Candidates must demonstrate leadership skills such as team captaincy, participation in student government, civic contributions or community service

Applicants must also have earned at least a bronze award in the Governor-General’s Youth Award programme

Eligibility/Criteria

  • Must be a Bahamian Citizen
  • Must be enrolled in a public senior school
  • First preference given to students who will be first in their family to receive a college education
  • A GPA of 3.00 or greater for academic students
  • A GPA os 2.75 or greater for technical and vocational  students
  • Must pursue one of the outlined careers of national need
    • Have at least five (5) BGCSE (Bahamas General Certificate of Secondary Education) Examinations with grade of a “C” or above inclusive of Mathematics and English Language (Academic Student Requirements)
    • Must be eligible for a Student Visa/Study Permit, complete all Visa requirements and pay all associated fees

Documents Needed

*You will need to have scanned and saved the required documents in PDF format.

    • Copies of relevant examination certificates and test scores (AP, BGCSE, ACT, SAT, etc.)

      • Three(3) letters of recommendation:Two (2) from teachers at your school AND One (1) from a guidance counselor at your school

        • A copy of the college/ university acceptance letter

          • An up-to-date official school transcript

            • A copy of the first four (4) pages of your passport or certificate of citizenship

              • A copy of your valid National Insurance Card

              • A valid Police Character Certificate

                  • A medical certificate (Required before the issuance of the award)
