English Proficiency: 

  1. If a student has studied in an English medium of instruction for three years, the language proficiency requirement may be waived.
  2. Students in high school in Canada whose first language is other than English may have to submit a language proficiency test.
  3. Students who do not meet our English requirements but are academically admissible may receive an offer of admission allowing them to begin academic studies upon successful completion of the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program

Dr. and Mrs. Joseph Ernest Barss Bursaries

The Dr. and Mrs. Joseph Ernest Barss Bursaries. These have been endowed by Dr. and Mrs. Joseph Ernest Barss of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and provide $573 to each of four first year students from the United States on the grounds of sporting behaviour, leadership, academic standing and need. The awards are to be made by the Bursary Committee on the recommendation of the Director of the School of Kinesiology and the Head of the Department of Community Development.

Dr. Ernest Hayes International Student Scholarship

Scholarship | Eligibility: Science, Chemistry, Current 2nd year

The Dr. Ernest Hayes International Student Scholarship is awarded annually to the most promising international student entering the second year of a Bachelor of Science (Chemistry) program.

The scholarship is made possible through the generosity of Dr. Abdullah K Kirumira in recognition of Dr. Hayes’ notable encouragement of international students studying chemistry; particularly those from developing countries.

Esther Clark Wright International Student Scholarships

The Esther Clark Wright International Student Scholarships are awarded annually to entering or returning international students.These scholarships are made possible through a bequest from the estate of Esther Clark Wright of Wolfville, NS. Dr. Wright (Acadia BA 1912, HON DL 1975; PhD, Radcliffe-Harvard 1931; HON DL, Dalhousie University 1981; HON DL, University of New Brunswick 1984) was a noted author. She taught Sociology at Acadia from 1943 to 1947. In 1988 the lounge in Chase Court and the University Archives were named in her honor.

Raymond E Ivany Scholar-Bursary

Established in 2017 by alumni and friends in grateful recognition of Raymond E. Ivany’s extraordinary contribution to Acadia as President and Vice-Chancellor 2009-2017, on the occasion of his retirement. The Raymond E. Ivany Scholar-Bursary is to be awarded to an entering domestic or international student in any full-time program on the basis of academic achievement, financial need, and future potential to exemplify the Acadia spirit. In particular, the successful applicant will be hard-working, focused, socially engaged, committed to excellence, determined to gain every possible benefit from an Acadia education and to use that education to make a difference in the world. Selection will be made by a special panel on the basis of an essay and/or interview.

Scotiabank Studentships

Established in honour of Acadia’s 175th Anniversary, the Scotiabank Studentships are awarded on a renewable basis to five entering full-time undergraduate students in recognition of exceptionality. Demonstrating achievement academically and socially, through community service, student leadership, athletic and/or artistic activities, the recipients also persevere through adversity. The studentships are available to both domestic and international students and are each valued at $8,750 annually for four years.

Scholarships listed are specific to international students. Other faculty and departmental awards may be available.

Chase Court

  • Size: 255 Residents
  • Features: All single and deluxe single rooms, lounges, kitchenettes, large lounge areas. Each residence has a remarkable team of student Resident Assistants who build a sense of community. They also work with our Safety and Security staff to provide 24/7 campus safety.
  • Typical Room Includes: Bed, nightstand, armoir, dresser, desk (with shelves), deskchair, telephone.
  • Room Mix: 100% single rooms including: 190 Basic Single rooms (private room with a single bed), 47 Deluxe Single Rooms (a larger room with a double bed), 18 rooms in 6 Shared Suites (suites consist of 3 private bedrooms, a lounge and a washroom)

Chipman House

  • Size: 118 Residents
  • Features: Single, double and deluxe single rooms, floor lounges and kitchenette, activity room.
  • Typical Room Includes: Large built-in closet with drawers, storage and hanging space, bed with small shelves and storage, desk with shelves above, telephone and desk chair.
  • Room Mix: 76 beds in double rooms (single beds), 38 single rooms (single bed), 4 deluxe single rooms (larger room, double bed)

Christofor Hall

  • Size: 74 Residents
  • Features: Smaller size residence, single, double and deluxe single rooms. Large main lounge, kitchen and study area.
  • Typical Room Includes: Bed, armoir, dresser, nightstand, desk with shelf, telephone and deskchair.
  • Room Mix: 29 single rooms (single bed), 15 deluxe single room (double bed), 15 doubles (30 single beds)

Crowell Tower

  • Size: 264 Residents
  • Features: Each floor has 20 residents and an RA, kitchen/lounge area on each floor, TV lounge area and laundry on main level.
  • Typical Room Includes: Bed, closet, built-in dresser, storage cabinet, desk with shelves, telephone and deskchair.
  • Room Mix: 144 single rooms (single bed), 60 double rooms (120 single beds), 1 private apartment for Residence Don.
  • Community Type: Co-ed residence and sections.

Cutten House

  • Size: 258 Residents
  • Features: Larger residence split into smaller sections with lounge and kitchenettes. Large TV lounge and common space on main level. Kitchen and dining area on main level.
  • Typical Room Includes: Closet, bed (with storage), dresser, desk (with shelves above), telephone and desk chair.
  • Room Mix: 144 single rooms (single bed), 55 double rooms (110 single beds)
  • Community Type: Co-ed residence and sections.

Dennis House

  • Size: 144 Residents
  • Features: Large TV lounge, kitchen and common areas on main floor. Mix of single rooms in suites, double, deluxe single and single rooms. Lounge on each floor with bay window and view of campus. Kitchenette on each level.
  • Typical Room Includes: Armoir, dresser, nightstand, bed, desk with shelf, telephone and desk chair.
  • Room Mix: 6 single rooms (single bed), 8 deluxe single rooms (double bed), 10 shared suite rooms (single bed with a shared bathroom and lounge with other rooms in the suite), 60 double rooms (120 single beds).

Eaton House

  • Size: 91 Residents
  • Features: Sister residence to Christofor Hall, smaller residence with kitchenettes on each floor, large communal lounge, kitchen and study space on main level.

Raymond House

  • Size: 10 Residents
  • Features: Small residence or large shared house, Raymond House has the benefits of campus living in a small community for upper year or mature students. Large lounge, shared kitchen.

  • Room Mix: 9 single rooms (single bed), 1 private suite with own bathroom (single bed)

Roy Jodrey Hall

  • Size: 96 Residents
  • Features: All single rooms and suites, all double beds. Roy Jodrey, or RoJo as it is known, is designed for upper year living. Newest residence on campus with a lounge on each floor and a kitchen/dining room on the lower level.
  • Typical Room Includes: Armoir, dresser, nightstand, double bed, desk with shelf, telephone and deskchair.
  • Room Mix: 48 single rooms (double bed), 48 bedrooms in shared suites (single room, double bed with a lounge and bathroom shared by two other suitemates)

Seminary House

  • Size: 90 Residents
  • Features: Heritage property with high ceilings and different room sizes and types. Large common lounge plus games room. Two long sections of rooms plus three short sections make Seminary a building full of character.

War Memorial House

  • Size: 137 Residents
  • Features: Kitchen and lounge on each floor. Large common lounge on lower level. Laundry on lower level. Top floor includes some rooms with their own showerroom.

Whitman House

  • Size: 98 Residents
  • Features: Residence for women only. Whitman or “Tully” as it is known has modern private bathrooms and other facilities together with a real sense of history. Hardwood floors, two kitchens and lounges on the lower level and one large lounge and a quiet study lounge on the main floor.
  • Typical Room Includes: Armoir, dresser, nighstand, bed, desk with shelf, telephone and desk chair.
